I have been feeling the loss of the HIA Gateway website since it effectively closed in 2010-11, though it limped along unloved and un-updated till 2017. Since then I’ve been hoping that one or other UK or international organisations would pick up the ‘dropped baton’ and resurrect the HIA Gateway in some form. Unfortunately that hasn’t happened.
Why was the original HIA Gateway important to me? Because it was a key resource for me in 2003-04 when Ben Cave gave me my start in HIA, through ‘learning by doing’ consultancy approach. Now HIA has become part of my public health career and my public health thinking and practice.
As someone who feels that if you see a problem, you don’t wait around, you get going and solve it. I now feel I’ve waited long enough for someone else, smarter, more insightful, more knowledgeable, more experienced and better to do it.
So here it is, as ‘imitation is 'sincerest form of flattery’ and ‘great artists steal’.
I hope you enjoy using it as much as I enjoy creating an developing it.
